Membership Levels
NELA-Illinois currently offers seven different membership levels.
Advocate Member $500.00 per year
An Advocate Member receives all of the benefits of Regular Membership plus the special appreciation of NELA-Illinois by providing additional needed funding.
Contributing Member $200.00 per year
A Contributing Member receives all of the benefits of Regular Membership plus the special appreciation of NELA-Illinois by providing additional needed funding.
Regular Member $150.00 per year
A Regular Member of NELA-Illinois is any member of the bar of any jurisdiction in the United States of America who can truthfully certify that at least 51% of his or her employment-related legal representation is on behalf of employees, or a retired individual who, as of his or her most recent employment, met these requirements. Regular members in good standing are eligible to vote, to serve on the NELA-Illinois Board of Directors, to receive our listserv messages, to post messages to our listserv, and to have access to the "Members Only" area of our website.
Government, Not-for-Profit Attorney, or Academic $50.00 per year
Government, Not-for-Profit, or Academic Members are Attorneys who work for a government agency, not-for-profit, or academic institution who meet the requirements for a Regular Member or whose employment-related scholarship is on behalf of employees.
Paraprofessional Members $50.00 per year
A Paraprofessional member is any non-attorney (paralegal, legal assistant, etc.) who can truthfully certify that a majority of work on employment-related legal representation is for an attorney who is a Regular Member or a member treated as such under the Association by-laws.
Ally Members Complimentary
Ally Members are individuals (attorney or non-attorney) who perform work for a not-for-profit or other advocacy organization whose purpose is to advance employee rights or other purposes as deemed by the Board to be consistent with the purpose of NELA-Illinois.
Retired Members $50.00 per year
A Retired Member is a retired individual who, during his or her most recent employment, met the criteria for membership as a Regular, Government, Not-for-Profit, or Academic Member, or who was a member in good standing at the time of retirement and is not otherwise ineligible for membership.
Law Student Member Complimentary
A Law Student Member of NELA-Illinois is any law student who can truthfully certify that he or she is a student in good standing in an accredited law school in the United States of America and is not working for a lawyer or a law firm whose employment-related legal representation is more than 49% on behalf of employers. Law Student members in good standing have access to the "Members Only" area of our website, may attend NELA-Illinois events including brown bag lunches, and may be eligible to receive and post messages to our listserv. They are not eligible to vote or to serve on the NELA-Illinois Board of Directors.
Reciprocal Member $50.00 per year
A Reciprocal Member is a Regular Member in good standing of any other NELA state or local affiliate who can truthfully certify that at least 51% of his or her employment-related legal representation is on behalf of employees, or a retired individual who, as of his or her most recent employment, met these requirements. Reciprocal members receive our listserv messages and can post to our listserv, but are not listed in our publicly-available Members Directory, are not eligible to vote, cannot serve on NELA-Illinois' Board of Directors, and do not have access to the "Members Only" area of our website. Reciprocal members who want those privileges need to become Regular, Contributing, or Advocate members of NELA-Illinois.
